MAY 5th SUMMING UP
|
An interesting edition of the race and a pretty typical one in terms of
range of abilities and potential.
Green Park's trainer has used the race mostly for moderate 2yos
although he might have had the winner in 2003 with the one average 2yo
he has run in the race (who was nearly put over the rail by the runner-up).
He looks above the quality of any of those previous runners although not
up to the standard of the last three race winners. He has a profile without
any obvious negatives and sets a strong standard.
If Green Park shows just average improvement from debut then only Sand
Cat would have prospects of matching him. None of his winning siblings
won on debut and the better pair developed from mid-season. His trainer
appears not to have his early debuts as 'wound up' as he once did and he
would have to be useful or better to beat Green Park. However, strong support
for this stable's 2yos is usually significant.
Of the others Bathwick Prince, Allsussedup & In Hope have shown hints
that they might be competitive in lower quality races. However, it would
need Green Park to 'fail' and Sand Cat to be inexperienced on debut for
any of them to be better than third.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The last three races have been won by useful or superior 2yos for three
different trainers. Two were on their STO runs after strong debuts and
the Group 7f winner Barbajuan was on his debut and backed.
The superior runners have been backed up by a wide range of abilities and
usually only average winners at best. The 2002 race included the 4yo Group
2 winner Night Prospector on debut (he did need the Epsom draw bias to
win at that level though).
|
TRAINERS: |
R Hannon has run 5 horses in the last 3 races. Only one of these
won at 2yo and was supported on debut.
R Millman won the race in 2002 with the superior Coconut Penang
who had finished second when one of his trainer's early season 'Nottingham
raids' with his best 2yo.
