MAY 18th SUMMING UP
|
The range of weights in the race has produced a close packed profile with
no runner standing out.
Carmenero produced the best form on his debut run in a good maiden.
He then faded notably against similar opposition on soft ground on an uphill
course. He steps up to 6f on this flat course. If he were to show minor
improvement from his debut he would set a very strong standard. However,
his trainer has a poor record with 2yos so that improvement is far from
guaranteed.
John Keats was the second most expensive and gives weight to all
but Jack Reacher. He is by Bertolini and a relatively cheap buy from a
moderate female side for Sheikh Mohammed and presumably to 'support' the
stallion that he raced and stands. In 2004 the same trainer had a similar
2yo in Mystical Land (by the Sheikh's first season sire Xaar) and he was
readier than usual on debut and targeted at 2yo racing.
A number of others have hints of form and promise which could see them
competitive here. Soft Gold ran an inexperienced debut over 5f and
appeared to show some promise in keeping on late in that race. He steps
up to 6f here and, in theory, need only show minor improvement to run prominently
here. His trainer is reliable enough to expect reasonable improvement.
