MAY 29th SUMMING UP
|
A not uncommon Newmarket maiden which just about scrapes to 'average' level
on profile. They aren't all full of better 2yos from top trainers. This
one has a high proportion of smaller local trainers with runners and probably
saving petrol (& possibly being able to walk the horses to the course).
Classic Encounter represents a younger trainer who has given the
impression he's reliable and knows how to get the 2yos fit for debut. He
also seems to asses the 2yos before they run and knows which have ability.
This runner made a debut in a Conditions race and was fit and well prepared.
He made a good debut in challenging an experienced runner into the last
furlong. Minor improvement should see him set a tough standard for the
others.
Reviving's trainer has had two places with his earlier, cheaper,
2yo debuts. A normal FTO run by the trainer's 2005 standards would see
him competing for a place in a group light on better potential.
Cherokee Vision & Always Hopeful both have profiles to
be 70ish rated 2yo sprinters. They run for trainers with different approaches
to debuts and Cherokee Vision is likely to be more forward but Always Hopeful
has better longer term prospects.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race was run as a 5f maiden for the first time in 2004. Before that
there had been 6f maidens for colts and fillies which had been above average.
The 2004 race attrated a moderate to average group with only 3 minor maiden
& auction winners behind. This year's seems to have a similar field
and with no obviously useful+ 2yos.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Beckett (Left Nostril), Carrowkeel (Crystal Air), King
Charlemagne (Tiber Tilly) & Primo Valentino (Cherokee Vision) have
runners. Only King Charlemagne has had a winner (6f).

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Classic Encounter (Windsor) rated 75. Absolutely classic 'medium
sprinter'. Medium size and above average build. Very fit on debut.
In proportion and with good power behind. Unremarkable overall and a neat,
ready, 2yo sprinter. Ought to be able to rate 80+ but slightly limited
by size for later season development.
Always Hopeful rated 70 with a just above average chance of being
a 2yo winner. Smallish but heavily built sprinter of a typical type the
owner (J Fretwell) has.
Cherokee Vision rated 65. Below medium size but just above average
build. Lengthy for size with ok range but movement behind not quite right.
Rating could be higher if that has improved.
