JUNE 7th SUMMING UP
|
|
RACE QUALITY:
|
The race had been an open fillies' maiden prior to 2004 and had usually
attracted acceptable field sizes. In 2004 the race became a Class
E auction and got a large field and a surprisingly high class first three.
B Hills provided the first & second who were both on debut. Whazzat
went on to win at Royal Ascot on her next run and the runner-up Maids Causeway
went on to be a Group 2 winner and placed in this year's 1000 guineas.
The third home broke her maiden in a French Group 3 race. The fourth, in
retrospect, had an impossible job and did well to finish close to the first
three and clear of a large set of moderate fillies.
|
TRAINERS:
|
Neither of the trainers who provided the high class first three in 2004
have runners. R Hannon has four runners and this is not unusual.
He had thrre runners in 2003 when the race was a smaller field maiden.
On jockey bookings the order of preference appears to be Rubber, Gillipops,
Thornfield Clo & finally Ruffie.
