JUNE 8th SUMMING UP
  • Hunter Street comes out top on profile but is unlikely to set a high level. His debut run was just adequate and he looked to get outpaced and didn't reach out when the race quickened. If he shows the same lack of athleticism he would be vulnerable to a better type. It would not be surprising in that circumstance to see him travel quite well with the group but not pick up when the race quickens and be beaten.
  • However, he may have found an easier  race and may be able to win 'ugly'. His trainer seems to get even moderate 2yos rated 80+. The most likely candidate to trouble him would seem to be Final Bid whose trainer has already had 3 debut winners in 2005. He would only need to be a little above average to compete with Hunter Street FTO.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • The 6f race at this meeting was run as an Auction race in 2004 but reverts to the Novice race it had previously been after attracting only 5 runners.
  • TRAINERS:
  • P Chapple-Hyam had a runner in the 6f race at this meeting in 2004 in his first season back in Britain. He ran two 2yos on debut in early April in that year and then had a break until late May and introduced some better 2yos from this week onwards.
  • In 2005 he has shown a similar pattern with three debut runs from April 13-15th (one of these won STO on May 2nd) and then a break until one of those early debuts - Hunter Street - runs here.
  • The June runners in 2004 all competed quite well with several places but no winner. He then got into strong form in July with a run of 7 wins from ten runs from July 1st. He said in interview that he felt he had his early runners in 2004 less fit than he thought they would be because the Newmarket gallops were less stiff than the ones he had used at Manton (where he trained before leaving for Hong Kong). Therefore it will be interesting to see how his 2yos perform in June this year and whether the 'form wave' starts a little earlier.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires Beckett (Norman Beckett) & Primo Valentino (First Byte) have runners.
  • SALES REVIEWS:
  • Hunter Street rated 66 with an average chance of being a 2yo winner. Medium sized but notably heavily built. Short and lacking athleticism and could be a strong trundler. If his movement improved he has the muscle and body to rate more highly.
  • Malech rated 62. Lengthy and light behind. Did not look a speed type on setup and likely to need 7f+.
  • Intoview rated 51. A tiddler and lightly built. Quite neatly put together but not nearly enough of her.
