JUNE 12th SUMMING UP
|
A slight surprise to see B. Meehan run Northern Empire here rather
than at the Royal meeting (perhaps he will do both). He normally tries
for 'tidy up' maiden wins after that. He has strong form and an above average
paddock rating and ought to win this comfortably. He has looked to travel
well in races and it would be good to see him allowed to set a good pace
rather than be ridden for a 'finish'
Neither of those with previous runs appeal as improvers and the best opposition
is likely to come from the newcomers Figaro Flyer & Rag
Tag. Figaro Flyer got a good sales review and ought to be bale to rate
80ish over sprint distances. However he will be below that on debut and
he's ridden by a second string stable jockey which raises a slight concern
over his future prospects.
Rag Tag's dam has not managed to produce a winner with 8 previous foals
so he's lacking some of the usual paperwork. However, it's a good sign
he runs this early and the trainer has said he would have been their first
runner but for a setback. He is probably going to be a 65-72 rater at best
but he ought to make the first three against this group if he's going to
reach that level.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Usually a race with limited depth but attracting good quality at the sharp
end. A rating over 75 has been required in 2002-4.
|
TRAINERS:
|
A Balding (Rag Tag) won with a family bred newcomer in 2004 and
his father won in 2002 when he was his assistant. In 2003 he ran two moderate
fillies who were unplaced.
R Hannon has had a winner and two second places in the last three
years. In 2004 he ran Marching Song who was second as favourite for the
same owner as Blue Jeans. His runners in the last three years have all
rated 80+ during the season.
|
SIRES:
|
First season sire Mozart (Figaro
Flyer) has a runner.
