Pre-race Summary

JULY 2nd SUMMING UP
  • A similar race to 2004 and lacking quality overall. Shes Minnie just has the best form in the race but is not improving and sets an average standard for the race. She was forced to lead the stands' side group at Newcastle last time where the winner came from the far side group who had a lead from an early stage in the race. She is well drawn here and should again be prominent.
  • Trainer C. Wall ran three on debut in two days in early June and all made similar midfield debuts rating in the 50s. The first of those three to run STO (Expensive) ran a good second at Haydock yesterday. The other two run STO in the two 2yo races at this meeting. Foxysox made a less obviously promising debut than Expensive but an a solid race against better types than she meets here. Normal improvement for a trainer STO runner would see her competitive here from a reasonable draw.
  • Rosthwaite was one of a number of early debuts for the trainer who took out a licence this season. Those runs were similar with notable support in the market, losing ground at the start but then showing ability to get placed (another of those debuts - Out The Ordinary - runs in the other 2yo race on the card). She ran a reasonable race in a much better race than this one STO and has had a long break. Her trainer has shown signs that he has got those early runners into better form levels and competency. She is probably poorly drawn and may need the run after the break but could be competitive off bottom weight in a moderate race.
  • Distant Shores has also had a long break after two early runs, uncompetitive ones in her case. Her astute trainer had his first 2yo winner of the season yesterday (typically in a seller) and it is interesting that he persists with her outside of seller/claimer races. She has prospects to rate in the 60s and should be assessed in hat light here.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • A moderate race in 2004 requiring a performance in the low 60s to win. The minor later winners were spread through the field and only one scraped a rating over 70 in the season.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires (to June 29th):
  • Bertolini (Shes Minnie), 33 runners, 6 winners of 8 races, 7 x 5f, 1 x 7f.
  • King Charlemagne (Whisper Inthe Wind), 4 runners, 1 x 6f win.
  • Medicean (Lady Cree, Ruffie), 6 runners, 1 x 6f debut win.
  • Mull Of Kintyre (Catherines Cafe, Joy In The Guild), 20 runners, 6 winners of 6 races, 5 x 5f, 1 x 7f.
