Dubai Hero review – quite a close race in terms of physical types. Got caught out by Godolphin and in particular SBS’s preparation. Felt the same way here as with Thunder Snow at Leicester. Best type but not quite ready. The SBS prep seems to leave them with slightly less muscle definition than one would expect for horses as fit as they are. The Hannon’s sometimes also pull off this trick.

Dubai Hero – Just about the biggest but I had a question over his readiness. Strongly made, calm in prelims. Faster time than Boynton the next day and did this like Boynton with just one flick after having travelled very powerfully. Pace set by Evergate probably a bit too strong and both Godolphin horses held up early. 95

D’Bai – Top end of medium, different model from Dubai Hero, chunkier. 95

Hyde Park – 3to and longest price he has been but still favourite. The influence of this trainer and those colours. Size limited and short of substance behind. Put up a good show here and perhaps rather harshly dismissed on previous runs. 80

Khalidi – Different model again, lower medium sized and a light but athletic frame. Appears downhill here which not spotted at the time. Probably over stretched by matching strides with Evergate early. Should be better when levelling up. 82

Mr Tyrrell – More of the Hyde Park model. Strongly made in a mid to low medium frame. Fit enough to win but lacking quite the structure and may have gone a bit fast early. Also a question about his stride limiting him, looked choppy at the rear on the walk. 81

Evergate – Palmer fit, still a bit keen and over-racing early. Confirmation and make up may be limiting him. 77

Fujaira Bridge – Short bodied lower medium, chunky and a bit truncated at the back. Maybe not more than 95% fit. Improve but held back by scope. Looks very expensive at 310k. 77

Gilgamesh – Matching size with Dubai Hero, maybe a fraction over long, looked fit. Spencer tootling around out the back for ages and then just brought him home quite gently. Looked to finish well and may need even further. Something likeable about him and may be better than I can see here. 78+

Amlad – Ed Dunlop lump, not fit enough to compete here. Strongly made in a workaday way. 78

Mungo Madness – Out of place amongst these big boys, should be in a Windsor maiden. Ok shape and scope in a barely more than small frame. 70

Chaparrachik – Great big strong boy, stupidly fat for a racecourse debut. Better than he showed here, good proportions and should be ok when fit. 84
