APRIL 24th SUMMING UP
|
A typical Brighton race to some extent with bigger stables dropping (probably)
average types to the course to try to break their maiden. An unusual race
in that the top six on profile all fit this model and produce a race with
more depth and overall quality than is usual for the course.
Likely to be an interesting race and there should be a good pace which
may well put pressure on Zato. How well he handles the course and the pace
to be able to stay on in the uphill final furlong may be crucial for the
race. If he can't get there then John Claude and Caan set a good standard.
Stratham and Hits Only Jude provide further interest in assessing their
performances for promise for the future..

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race in common with many Brighton maidens is usually of moderate to
average quality. The best runners in the last two races have rated in the
mid-70s at best during the season.
|
TRAINERS:
|
N Callaghan is notable for using Brighton to try to ensure runners,
of various quality, break their maidens. He won this race in 2003 with
a STO runner who rated mid-70s in the season and won 4 races similar races
in 2004 with 2yos ranging from limited types like Lola Sapola through to
the 'developmental' Silver Wraith & Oligarch. This race looks stronger
than the average Maiden here.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Beckett (Left
Nostril) & Mozart (Stratham)
have runners.
Two sires with moderate 5f 2yo records (Zafonic & Mark Of Esteem) have
runners over this 5.3f course for trainers who try all kinds of pedigrees
over 5f (a list which doesn't extend much beyond M Channon, R Hannon &
WGM Turner).
