MAY 1st SUMMING UP
|
A moderate to average edition of the race and probably with limited future
significance. Crocodile Bay looked to have limited scope to develop
at Windsor but still looked a cut above the profiles of the other previous
winners in the race. He also came closest to proving that he's suited to
a faster 5f race on a flat track. While it often feels suspect to have
a runner carrying the maximum penalty top on profile he ought to be too
good for the other than carry penalties.
The 'loose cannon' is Jazz At The Sands. If he were with a trainer
who had a more obviously organised strategy with 2yos we would know a lot
more about him than we do after two runs. We do know that he has some natural
pace but tends to run freely and has shown two strong fades in his previous
races. However, he cost more than the four previous winners in the race
put together and has looked an acceptable physical type. His trainer has
a poor to moderate record for getting 2yos wins...and yet...
Swift Fury runs for a trainer who ran mostly average to better types
in Novice races on debut in 2004 so her debut performance will be interesting
to assess.

RACE QUALITY:
|
A wide variation and greatly dependent upon the quality of the winners
so far in a season. The 2003 race was devoid of quality while the 2004
race saw three useful 2yos produce a good race and a much higher rating.
With the relatively slow start to the season and the lack of quality runners
so far has led to a moderate to average group. Unlikely that any of them
will be up to the quality of the first three in 2004.

SIRES:
|
First season sire Mull Of Kintyre
(Aboyne) has a runner.
US based sire Forest Wildcat
(Jazz At The Sands) is represented.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Crocodile Bay (Windsor) rated 74. Rating probably close to an 'at
best'. Only medium size and build in the group. Ok strength behind but
slightly weaker front. On the positive side he was a ready type and a good
mover despite being slightly up behind. Probably the readiest type in the
field and others had more scope to develop.
Penny Whisper was small and lightly built at the sales. She was
neat enough and unremarkable otherwise but always likely to be limited
by her size. Rated 61.
