Pre-race Summary

MAY 2nd SUMMING UP
  • A moderate race on profile and an unsatisfactory profile with Butterfly Bud coming out top despite showing just minor promise on debut. He runs for a trainer with a poor record with 2yos and would be one to oppose at a shorter SP.
  • As often is the case in these low level auction races the best alternatives are from the higher weights. The other topweight colt Supreme Charter & topweight filly Taras Leader. Neither trainer has produced a strong debut runner in 2005 yet but they could be competitive with an average debut.
  • At least one of the second rank ought to place and might provide a surprise result with the top three on profile having negatives. Therefore, it would be a very small surprise to see Beverley Polo and/or Bloodstocktv prominent.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • Usually a moderate to average quality race although in most seasons there are 2-3 average later winners in the field. The abandoned race in 2004 would have had similarities to this one with M Johnston (Royal Island) & JJ Quinn (Melalchrist) both having entries on debut. Both of these runners were average+ winners later in the season.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sire Bertolini (Taras Leader) has a runner.
