JUNE 9th SUMMING UP
|
A tightly packed profile between the top four and the pace of the race
could have an important part to play. Salute Him looked a bigger,
lengthy type at the sales that would need 7f to show him to his best. He
made two early runs over 5f and on the second of those runs showed a longer
striding action and was beaten by two faster 5f runners. He returns after
a two month break and goes up to 6f but he would be vulnerable to nippier
types in a slow race with a sprint finish.
The Snatcher was notably backed last time on soft ground and
well drawn to win a 5f race, leading his side for most of the way. He is
a smaller, neater type than Salute Him and would be better suited to a
sprint finish but he may well make the pace. The runner with the best all
round speed is probably Tous Les Deux although the level of his
form so far holds down his profile level. He would probably be well placed
to win a slow race with ashort sprint finish.
To complicate matters further Corrib in receipt of 10lb from the
other three would only have to make modest improvement to be competitive
with the others.
Not a race to feel confident about and as interesting to see how it compares
to the 2002 result when the same four trainers (and probably three of the
same owners) provided four of the first five home.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Normally a race requiring a rating between 75-85 to win and usually the
highpoint of the season for the winner. The field usually include only
occasional later winners in the season.
The notable exception was Tout Seul in 2005 who won slightly comfortably
in 2002 in wet conditions but not looking like a future Group 1 winner.
|
TRAINERS:
|
A race that attracts a regular cast and this year's field has a good resemblance
to the 2002 group.
R Hannon has entered a previous winner in each of the previous three
seasons. These have been 2yos that have not been of high enough quality
to compete in Listed+ races and this type of race has been the highpoint
of there season. He has had a 3rd and a 4th and his runner in 2004 was
a non-runner but here first win had come in a claimer.
M Channon has run previous winners for the Maktoum family or their
associates. As with R Hannon these have been 2yos below Listed class and
have run in nurseries later with the odd, unsuccessful, go in pattern races.
He had had one win, at odds-on, a third and one unplaced.
F Johnson-Houghton won the race in 2002 with the later Group 1 winner
Tout Seul who was on STO after winning on debut at the course. His runner
- Tous Les Deux - is owned by the same syndicate and also made his debut
at the course, finishing second after being backed.

SIRES:
|
First season sire Mull Of Kintyre (Salute Him) has a runner.
Stoutly bred first season sire Compton Admiral (Compton Flyer) has
his first runner. He made his debut in June over 6f at 2yo finishing second
then ran in the 7f Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot two weeks later. He won
over 7f at 2yo and showed his best form over 10f at 3yo.
