JUNE 17th SUMMING UP
|
A good edition of the race with only one no-hoper and plenty of potential
amongst the others. However much of that potential is from owner breds
so there's limited information over how good they might be. M Stoute runs
two owner breds for example - Nastrelli & Velvet Valley -
after a break from a 'sighter' debut with his first runner on May 23rd.
It is unlikely that both are useful and they would need to be to win for
the trainer.
The Visualiser cost $1M and nearly twice as much as his ordinary,
maiden winning, half brother for the same owners. His trainer has not got
into stride with the 2yos but it likely to happen soon and we can presume
he's not a moderate one being got out of the way.
Porters is the first test of a muddling 7f maiden at Sandown which
he might have won with a clear run after being driven along early around
the bend and 6L behind at halfway. The form he achieved was moderate and
he went into the 'notebooks' as an unlucky loser so is likely to be at
shorter SP than he should be.
Dazed made a typically anonymous debut by her trainer's standards
but showed some promise after losing 4L at the start. She steps up to 7f
and we'll find out today whether the quiet debut was because she's not
very good.

RACE QUALITY:
|
A new race in 2004 and the first 7f maiden at the course was usually a
week later. A reasonable group in 2004 with two later maiden winners and
Conditions race winner Grand Marque in the field. The testing nature of
the 7f was demonstrated with the winner being on his STO run and long distances
back to the 3rd-5th and with the remainder well adrift (all moderate, or
worse, maidens).

SIRES:

First season sires Medicean (Madroos), Minardi (Porters)
& Mozart (Nastrelli) have runners.
