March 28th SUMMING UP
  • On profile a tight race but with two runners in Rundear and Ellcon who have prospects to develop beyond the race level. However, neither is with a trainer notable for debut wins and Danjet, although limited, sets a standard which means they would need to be 75+ winners to beat her if she runs to form off a 10 day break.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • Race has usually been run around two weeks later in April.
  • Has a varied recent history, 2004 had a poor group and none of the eight runners aside from the winner ever won. 2003 was a better group but featured a group of small fillies who mostly won in sellers and/or on the AW. However, 2003 was a good race with the useful New Foundation (R. Hannon) winning on debut from Golden Nun (rated 90+ as a 2yo and older Listed winner) backed up by five solid winners of whom four probably achieved 70+ ratings later.
  • In summary a moderate group would produce a race which might only take a 50s rating performance to win although mid 60s is a reasonable benchmark. However a useful fill capable of 85+ later in the season could look a comfortable winner by rating just over 70.
  • TRAINERS:
  • Only WGM Turner has regularly had runners in the race before but has a moderate record.
  • M Channon has not used the race in the period 2002-4 but has introduced a good filly at Warwick in the April Auction Fillies' race.
  • SIRES:
  • The only First Season Sire with a runner is Observatory (A. Bankes).
  • Interesting to note early season 5f debuts for runners by Grand Lodge (who gets very occasional early 5f winners) and Giants Causeway (no 5f winner in his first season in 2004 and only one win before July). Both would appear to be owner bred fillies running for their Studs.
  • Note that Danehill Dancer has three of the ten runners (Danjet, Ooh Aah Camara & Rundear).
  • PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
  • Angelina Bankes (54) and Danjet (62) were Paddock Reviewed at Lingfield and Danjet has the rating to be competitive in this race especially given her experience and fitness.
  • Halcyon Lodge (64), Magical World (62) and Piccostar (59) were reviewed at the sales and all had obvious limitations.
