Two runners are well clear on profile but an interesting choice between
them.
Slack Willy Hilly showed little response and was slightly eased on debut
and finished with, or behind, a group who have shown little on their later
runs (Kung Hei, Angelina Bankes, Blue Minx, Par Excellence) although the
first two in that race who pulled away from the weaker group finished 1st
and 2nd in the Brocklesby.
He is the trainer's first STO runner and it should be very informative
to see how much he improves. On normal trainer profile you would expect
a good improvement and close to a win.
Azygous was one of the four entries the trainer had in the first race of
the season and given the performances of the other three (three wins and
a close second) suggests he should be ready to be close to his best on
debut. He received a slightly better sales rating than Slack Willy Hilly
and receives 2lb.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The early season auction races at the course tend to be of variable quality
and usually take a performance between 55-68 to win although occasionally
a better runner like Dusty Dazzler in 2002 can rate over 80.
The average race will have only minor winners, and probably AW winners,
behind the winner.

TRAINERS:
|
WGM Turner has had a representative in the race in each year 2002-4. In
2002 he won with the useful Dusty Dazzler but has had two poor runners
in 2003-4 (in line with the quality in the stable).
J Best had the surprise winner in 2004 but probably only rating in the
50s to win. In 2002 he had the second (to Dusty Dazzler) but that runner
was beaten by 11 lengths and rated in the 40s.
BR Millman had a poor runner (who had run in the earlier conditions race
at the course) in 2003.
R Hannon has not used the race in the period but won one of the other early
Auction races in 2004 with a STO runner.
D Shaw had a later winner well beaten on debut in the race in 2003.

SIRES:

First season sires with runners are Bertolini
(Allsussedup) & Observatory

American sire Forest Wildcat
is represented by Jazz At The Sands who ran on turf only 4 days ago.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Azygous was reviewed at the sales and rated 67 with an average chance of
being a competitive 2yo at her level.
Slack Willy Hilly was rated 62 at the sales but this was upgraded to an
'at best' 66 on paddock review on his debut because he had developed slightly
from the sales although his size would still limit him.
At The Bar was rated 62 at the sales with a below average chance of being
competitive. She was reviewed at Kempton and the rating was downgraded
to 54.
Angelina Bankes was rated 54 on paddock review.
Piccostar was rated 59 at the sales with a below average chance of being
competitive at her level.
