April 3rd SUMMING UP
|
An interesting race but more in terms of possible future significance.
Those that have run looked limited and probably rate into the 50s, low
60s at best.
More interesting are the performances and futures of Mr Rooney, John Claude
and Stratham. All three of these have the profiles to be 70+ rated 2yos
during the season and one of them may be useful.
However the three with real potential run for trainers who do not have
their 2yos close to their best on debut. So, it would only need a missed
break and/or some inexperience and they could find themselves in an unseemly
'scuffle' with a runner like Tafilah for the win here.
If Mr Rooney or Stratham is useful they could win this on debut but if
not the race is an open one.

There was no corresponding early April maiden at the course in the period

TRAINERS:
|
E. J. O'Neill has his first runner as private trainer for owner
J Fretwell. In 2004 J Fretwell completed his purpose built training establishment
and held interviews to find the best trainer to work for him in this stable.
He chose E. J. O'Neill partly because he had had previous success with
a useful 2yo (Red Rioja) and Mr Fretwell targets 2yo racing.
N. Callaghan has his first runner of the season. He has had six
2yos make their debuts in April in the period 2002-4 and all have been
winners and rated 70+ at some point in the season. 4 of the 6 won by May
3rd of the season although only the best runner won on debut. Four of the
others were placed on debut.
M. Johnston has his first runner of the season. Until 2004
he had not used the course for 2yo debuts. In 2004 he had 6 debuts
at Yarmouth but they were in the period August to November. All of these
runners started 10/1+ but two were placed second.
He has had eleven 2yos make their debuts in April in 2003-4 and all of
these 11 have won during the season. Ten of these have been above average
winners and include superior 2yos Attraction, Joseph Henry and Russian
Valour. Only 2 of the 11 have won on debut (the high class pair Attraction
and Joseph Henry). Another 4 have placed and some have been inexperienced
and have needed runs to develop before they won.

SIRES:

First season sire Mozart (Stratham)
has his first 2yo runner.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Stratham was reviewed at sales and rated 68 and with an above average chance
of being a competitive 2yo. He has a rating to be up to the quality required
to win/place in this race if he is professional on debut.
Rundear was the most expensive at the sales. She was reviewed when she
made her debut 6 days ago. She was a disappointing specimen and rated 61.
