APRIL 8th SUMMING UP
|
The two previous winners have the advantage of a previous run (which has
been a bigger advantage than normal so far in 2005) to offset their 7lb
penalties. Preference is for Wovoka's performance at Musseburgh.
Ace Baby put up a staying performance at Nottingham three days ago and
would probably need the race to turn into a slog to win.
William John has the advantage of a previous run and should show solid
improvement.
Of the newcomers only Seesawmilu and/or The Bear are likely to be able
to compete to some level with those with previous runs.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Only the second time the race has been run as a Novice in 2002-4. The early
season races at Newcastle usually feature minor winners from northern trainers
at best. However, M Channon regularly uses them to run early runners for
Sheikh Mohammed and '2yo types' who will run regularly in the season.
The race was run on Heavy ground in 2004 and produced a performance in
the low 60s.

TRAINERS:
|
M Channon regularly uses the early Newcastle races for average+
2yo winners. He had the 4/6f beaten into second in 2004 with the reluctant
Bibury Flyer (who went on to run 20+ times at 2yo & then ran in Dubai
- that's what you get for showing reluctance, run until you learn willing).
J Moffatt had the winner of this race in 2004 with a precocious minor winner
who had run well in the Brocklesby before this race. He has a newcomer
this year.

SIRES:
|
First season sire Rambling Bear
(The Bear) has a runner.

SALES REVIEWS:
|
Ace Baby was reviewed at the sales and body and build was better than the
sales price including ok muscle for size. The problem was possibly his
movement which was rangy but weak and not properly controlled behind. Noted
that he could rate into 60s if movement improved.
Dispol Shabama was reviewed at sales and at least had some size and build
and there were lots of worse buys for more money. Lengthy for size and
stiff mover behind. Rated 63 and slightly below average chance of being
a competitive 2yo at here low 60s level.
