APRIL 22nd SUMMING UP
|
A slightly different shape than the race in the previous two seasons. The
bulk of the runners match the normal model of being limited to sub-70 ratings
and minor winners at best. However the three representatives from bigger
southern stables (Oceans Apart, Salut D'Amour & Rack And Ruin) promise
a stronger and more informative race than usual. The better of the two
T Easterby runners has prospects to be able to rate close to 70 in the
season as well.
Oceans Apart sets a very high standard on her debut run and may not need
to improve to win. However, Salut D'Amour is a strong opponent and a positive
market 'move' would be informative in this case (in general they aren't
in early 2yo races despite the constantly perpetuated belief).
Rack And Ruin's debut run should also be informative because she also has
good prospects to be an average+ winner.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Other than the Listed winner Needles And Pins who won in 2003 the race
has been of moderate quality. The race has included only minor later winners
and none have rated 70+.
|
TRAINERS:
|
A Bailey has has an unplaced runner in the last two runnings of
the race. One of these was a minor winner later in the season.
A Berry has had a runner in the last two races and one of these
was a minor later winner.

SIRES:

There are no first season sires with runners.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Salut D'Amour was reviewed at the sales and rated 73 with an above
average chance of being a competitive 2yo at her level. She was a good
size and with above average build. Deep in front and powerful behind although
slightly weaker in front. She looked capable of being an above average
winner in the season without looking obviously superior given her price.
Ellcon was reviewed at Warwick on her debut and was a slightly disappointing
type given her sales price. Lacked some build and would need to improve
and develop physically to be an average winner.
