APRIL 22nd SUMMING UP
|
Runners with previous runs have had a slightly bigger than usual advantage
so far in 2005. Abbielou and Bathwick Prince set a solid standard for any
newcomer on the evidence of their debuts, particularly with Abbielou who
runs for a trainer who does not target strong FTO runs.
Of the newcomers Out The Ordinary and Forces Sweetheart have the best profile
to be able to compete for places. One of these would have to be an above
average type to beat Abbielou unless she fails to show improvement. Out
The Ordinary has prospects to be a sprint 2yo of that quality but his trainer's
debut runners have been mixed so far.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The 2004 race was untypical and had a small field and only the winner was
a later winner in the season (at a useful level). 2002 & 2004 were
more typical with larger fields and a range of later winners in the field
including some useful+ (Peak To Creek, Spliff, Bishop's Lake).
The most ready, average to useful, 2yo type tends to win and the later
useful+ runners may finish unplaced if on debut.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Bertolini
(Abbielou) & Superior
Premium (Bathwick Prince) have runners. Neither has had a winner yet.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Miss Maxi (rated 60) & Sometimes Lucky (rated 54) were
reviewed at this course when they made their debuts in the same race. Both
were limited types, especially Sometimes Lucky who was also the least fit,
and should not be competitive in this type of, solid, open maiden.
Out The Ordinary was reviewed at the sales and was a good type and
rated 79 with a well above average chance of being a competitive 2yo. He
was a medium sized, heavily built & slightly compact sprint 2yo that
the owner targets. Notably strong type but also noted to check his movement
behind which needed to improve to allow him to reach his full potential.
A 2yo with this type of rating would be competitive to place, and possibly
win in this type of race depending upon the strength of the opposition
and his readiness on debut.
Colmar Supreme was reviewed at the sales and rated 64 with an average
chance of being a competitive 2yo at her level. She was small and narrow
but with ok build and geometry and ought to be competitive rating around
the mid 60s during the season.
