APRIL 29th SUMMING UP
|
Mr Rooney and Lord Jack Flash stand out as better quality. The penalties
for the other winners leaves only Sands Crooner receiving more than the
normal weight. His form is moderate and he looks short of the normal standard
even with the weight concession.
Mr Rooney has the profile to improve further from the form he has shown
which is slightly behind that of Lord Jack Flash although that runner appear
to have less scope to develop.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Usually a solid early season sprint and usually has at least on runner
capable of rating 85+ in the season. The 2003 race was stronger than usual
with the first three home all useful winners later.
The penalties and weight ranges can allow an average precocious filly to
be competitive with the useful winners at this early stage in the season.
The 2004 race was one by this type of filly in a slightly lower quality
race than normal. There are no unpenalised fillies in the 2005 race.
|
TRAINERS:
|
M Johnston won the race in 2002 with a similar early type who had
already won. That runner was declared for the Colts conditions race at
Beverley later which is the trainer's normal target for an 85ish rated
sprint type.
The declarations again show a number of 'regular' northern stables not
represented. In particular K Burke and D Barron have made slow starts and
have not had a winner yet.
|
SIRES:
|
First season sire Bertolini (Bow Bridge) has a runner with his only winner
to date.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Ace Baby, Ooh Aah Camara and Sands Crooner all have ratings in the low
to mid-60s suggesting that they would be just short of the normal level
required to win this type of race.
