MAY 2nd SUMMING UP
|
A poor to moderate race. If The History Man could reproduce his
run on debut at Doncaster he could win this comfortably. However he looked
to have problems at Musselburgh and showed regressive form after getting
unbalanced under pressure. It feels the right thing to look for an alternative.
Mr Cheers looked a solid early 2yo at the sales and this sort of
race would have been just his standard if he fulfilled that promise. However
he has shown two poor runs in moderate races and faded in both races. He
also got unbalanced under pressure. It would be unusual for a 2yo with
his trainer to show great improvement after so little promise in his first
two runs. He also has to give weight to all of the other runners.
In a poor to moderate group the fillies Fancy You & Multiple
have the best profiles to beat the better colts if they show the same form.
Fancy You achieved only a moderate level of form on debut in a slow race.
However, her trainer's 2yos have all shown improvement STO and she would
not have to do much better to win this.
Multiple has the profile to be the best runner in the race but the trainer
has not targeted strong debut runs in the last two seasons. It is also
slightly worrying that he sends her north to Catterick. Is he looking for
a FTO win with an ok type or a weaker race for a disappointing filly? This
might be one of those relatively rare occasions when the market will be
informative because the trainer assesses his 2yos before they run.
