Pre-race Summary

No corresponding race in 2003-4.
May 5th SUMMING UP
  • A very lopsided profile and only the three previous runners with acceptable form should be capable of winning. There's a long 'tail' of moderate types including an above average number of moderate owner-bred 2yos.
  • Forces Sweetheart has shown lesser form than Tryandstopme and Stephanies Dream but has more potential. She received a good paddock report in the context of this type of race and runs for a reliable trainer who targets STO wins with these 2yos.
  • Tryandstopme has not really progressed from a promising debut and has shown signs that her somewhat mulish attitude is limiting her. She would be a strong contender if she could show only slightly improved attitude and form.
  • Stephanies Dream comes into the race with a 'Brocklesby 3rd' rosette pinned to her. In a normal season this would be good enough recommendation to win pretty much any early season maiden. However, the strength of this year's Brocklesby is suspect and she had advantages in running on late for a 'volunteer' third without ever really getting into the race. That form is similar to Tryandstopme's and she probably has less potential and aptitude over 5f.
  • Of the others only Tempestuous Sea appeals as a filly who may have a future that's 70+ ratings-wise. Her trainer has made a slow start to 2005, as he did in 2004, and her performance will be interesting.
  • Empress Jain represents a strong stable whose early debut runners can be split into two broad categories - better types who may win FTO and more limited runners (including owner breds) who will compete less well. On profile she appears to be the latter but strong support, particularly close to the start of the race would be interesting.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • The 2yo race on the card has been run as a Fillies' Novice race in 2003-4 and attracted small fields. It has changed to a Maiden in 2005 and has more runners today than in the previous two seasons put together.
  • TRAINERS:
  •  E O'Neill (Goodbye Girl) is in his first season as private trainer to J Fretwell. He has had two debut winners from three FTOs runs in 2005 at 14/1 and 8/1.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires Golden Snake (Snake Skin) & Observatory (Solo Star) are represented.
