MAY 24th SUMMING UP
|
Sonny Santino made a typical medium-quiet debut for one of his trainer's
York FTO 2yos. He travelled well and moved through comfortably to take
a solid third without being pressed to chase the first two. With normal
trainer improvement he should rate 80+ here. There are slight niggles over
the STO performance record of the good debut runners at York. The longer
break caused by the abandonment of Goodwood maiden he was due to run in
last week may be an advantage.
Red Clubs is penalised 7lb for his win and does not appear to have
the overall improvement necessary to win with the extra weight as he steps
up to 6f. We've probably seen close to the best from Dingaan on
his last run where he was hampered later in the race. He should provide
a good marker to the form.
Of the others both El Capitan & White Ladder have good
potential to be at least average maiden winners. El Capitan runs
for a trainer who targets debut wins occasionally in maidens at lesser
courses and would probably have to be a superior type to win on debut.
White Ladder did no look ready to compete to his best when he ran poorly
on soft in the maiden that Sonny Santino ran well in at York. He was also
entered in the abandoned Goodwood race. His trainer persists with running
him at the important courses so he must think he's capable of being an
above average maiden winner.
