MAY 26th SUMMING UP
|
A very lopsided profile and as in previous years likely to be long distances
between the runners at the finish. Hill Of Howth would not need
to improve to win and assuming a normal advance for a trainer STO 2yo he
would be a comfortable winner if he handles the surface.
Stratham, Brenda Meova & Buzzinboy'zee all appear
to have shown us what they can do and do not appeal as likely notable improvers
although they set solid markers to judge the form by.
High Command is unlikely to be able to compete with those with solid
form on debut. He is his sire's first runner so he will be interesting
to assess on that basis. His dam side is all 'speed' so he may not be a
typical 2yo for Galileo.

RACE QUALITY:
|
In the previous three years the race has included a highly varied range
of abilities. Most of the runners have been the normal poor to moderate
2yos looking at the AW as an easy option. However, with the fibresand surface
and mostly good to firm ground in those years at this time the race had
been used by a number of trainers for average, or above average, 2yos that
have probably needed softer going.
This has produced races which have needed performances just above 70 to
win and with the field spread across most of the final furlong as the winner
finished.

TRAINERS:
|
K Ryan ran the above average Distinctly Game in the race in 2004
and he should have won but put in one of a number of 'after you' performances
the horse gave us during the season. He runs a similarly above average
type here with Hill Of Howth.
E McMahon has two runners here with Stratham the likely first string.
His father & now his assistant won the race in 2002 with a STO 2yo
who never showed any worthwhile later form.

SIRES:
|
First season sires Galileo
(High Command) & Mozart
(Stratham) have runners. Mozart has had a number of 5f places but no winner
and his first winner came yesterday with a 6f debut win.
This will be the stoutly bred Galileo's first runner. He ran only once
at 2yo winning an 8f maiden in Ireland by 14L on October 28th.
