JUNE 3rd SUMMING UP
|
Normally a strong race requiring a good performance to win. A fair amount
of potential among the large field but nothing really stands out as likely
to be an 80+ rater today.
Bronzed made an unimpressive debut at Newmarket in a particularly
slow race which was barely a 1.5f 'sprint'. He showed little aptitude for
that and lost ground to longer priced runners. However, the trainer has
already won with two STO 2yos that showed little FTO and spotting those
that will step forward on their second runs can be difficult. In an open
race and with experience he should be prominent but unlikely to set a strong
standard.
Elusive Warrior & Power Broker ran in different divisions
of Newbury maiden on very firm going which did not suit some runners. Power
Broker lost ground before halfway and looked uneasy on the ground. His
trainer also has a variable STO record so while he has the profile to rate
75+ it is a long way from guaranteed.
Elusive Warrior was 12/1 in the slower division where the strong favourite
failed. He showed less than a debut by a better types for the trainer given
the early run (her second debut won FTO for example). Again, he has some
potential to rate 70+.
Mulaqat was due to make his debut here at the May meeting
but the race was abandoned. His trainer has had three debut runners since
with one winner (here), one placed and one unplaced. Unless one of those
with previous runs improves greatly a strong trainer debut would be enough
to make him competitive.
Of the others it is worth mentioning Shogun Prince who is a early
debut runner for his 'NH' trainer. Since he started with a few 2yos in
2002 he has been notable for having his FTO runners fit and competent and
if they have ability places have been common, often at longer SPs. He has
an acceptable physical review from the sales .

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race has produced high class maiden form in the last two runnings with
ratings in the higher 80s required to win. The 2002 race contained three
2yos that rated over 90 and another than rated in the mid 80s.
In 2004 only five ran but they the first three were Group winner Dubawi,
Group placed Fox & 85 rated Qadar (who was the hyped favourite rather
than Dubawi).

TRAINERS:
|
M Tregoning has run similar types in the last two editions with
2yos capable of rating 85 reaching the first 4. He runs two here with Sebaaq
a STO runner for Hamdam Al Maktoum ridden by R Hills and Mulaqat on debut
for Ahmed Al Maktoum ridden by M Dwyer. Mulaqat was declared for the abandoned
6f race at the course in mid May.

SIRES:

First season sire Bertolini (Bronzed) has a runner.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Power Broker rated 79.
Sebaaq (Leicester) rated 74. Above average size and strong in front
but lengthy and lacking some power behind. Not quite fit enough on debut.
Calvera rated 70. Average chance of being a 2yo winner. Medium sized
and just above medium build and deep in front. Slightly narrow though and
weaker legged.
Shogun Prince rated 70. Above average chance of being a 2yo winner.
Medium size and above medium build and a good fluent mover.
