      August 29th Summary : 
     
    • One note on the Listed Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury. On Our Way comes out low in the list on ratings to date because he set a slow pace in his win at Sandown and so the final time and performance moderate. But, the length of stride he showed once getting going late on fitted into the 'something different' category along with items like visible ability to quicken, extended periods of effort (which Derbaas has shown to a minor extent) and so forth. He is a horse B2yoR has been waiting to see run again and it is interesting to see that he steps up to Listed level for Henry Cecil when he has a usable handicap mark of OR86 at present. 
    • Mr Cecil only ran four horses above maiden & nursery level in 2007 and three were successful on their run at a higher level after the maiden win. The horses were Twice Over, Kandahar Run & Tomintoul Flyer to give an idea of how selective he was. The fourth was Unnefer who was second in a Listed race after his maiden win. This year the only example has been Honest Quality who won a moderate Listed race 3TO after a maiden win on her second run.
    • Okd, that's the stats & printed page angle. In terms of type of horses you hope that On Our Way can continue his development and show a real step forward in ability and win well with his long stride showing late on as he is the best type with the most scope for the future. If the race turns into a slow one and a sprint he is a taller, leggy, type and is going to look short of pace against the more ready, 2yo types, and might not even place. Which means you would like to see him go to the front again and set a solid pace if the rest dawdle.
