MAY 15th SUMMING UP
|
A good group but not obviously outstanding. Green Park stands out
on profile and looked a good sprint 2yo on paddock review and is chosen
by a trainer who normally runs useful 2yos in the race. He looked very
professional at Lingfield after a good debut when he was clearly expected
to need the race.
Scarlet Knight has produced two 'staying on' performances in 5f
races and has looked less suited to a fast 5f . He finished just behind
Green Park on debut after getting behind and keeping on well. His win at
Bath was a mess of a race in a very slow time and poor form. He's clearly
better than that but others appeal as being better speed 5f types.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Usually a good class early season race requiring a performance in the 80s
to win.
The last three races have all featured the Group 3 Norfolk Stakes winner.
In 2002 Barons Pit won from the useful Folio.
In 2003 a thunderstorm before the race left tacky ground and the enormous
Russian Valour ran out of steam on sticky gound to finish second. In that
race a number of runners explored the far rail option used in soft ground
races and finished after the next race. That field included the Brocklesby
4th - Mac Love - who placed in the Group 1 Lockinge two days ago. So you
never quite know what's hiding in the beaten 14/1 shots (he was one of
the group that went on the 'tour'.
2004 was won by Blue Dakota comfortably from one useful opponent and a
number of makeweights.
