MAY  20th SUMMING UP
  • A wide range of abilities in this Auction race and with better types with stronger form a widely spread profile. A race where the stronger runners should dominate and unlikely to be a longer priced winner from outside that group.
  • Out The Ordinary bungled the start at Leicester on debut, as all his trainer's early runners did, but showed good promise to pull his way into the race and make a noticeable effort to move through for second before stalling. He left the impression he would have won with a professional start. The subsequent runs of the others in that race make that performance look better. He need only tighten up his act to set a strong standard.
  •  Abbielou has quickly developed into one of those regular types that the trainer has which show solid form but he struggles to win with. She runs only 4 days after an aggressive front running performance in blinkers. Off bottom weight she ought to be involved in the finish but looks vulnerable to improvers.
  • Multiple drifted in the market on debut in a moderate race but showed acceptable promise in keeping on late in that race. Her trainer has targeted educational debuts in 2005 and she should show normal improvement.
  • Montzando's trainer made a flying start to the season with 5 competitive 2yos who were ready to go from the first day of the season. All of that initial five have won. The debuts and runs by the other 2yos since then have been notably less forward and successful. In line with his reputation for assessing his 2yos before the season it appears that if they weren't in that first five then they are less able & natural runners. However, he made the best debut of the later batch and should improve a little further here given that he showed some inexperience FTO.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • Has often been a strong race despite being a limited Auction race. Northern trainers have often used it for their better 2yos that have cost middling prices at the sales. The supporting runners are very variable in line with the range of sales prices but normally include a number of minor winners.
  • In 2004 the 95+ rated Beckermet won from the later Listed winner Space Shuttle. In 2003 the useful Great Scott, who won a Class B conditions next time, was first with the 85 rated Iskander unplaced.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires Bertolini (Abbielou), Mull Of Kintyre (Multiple), Observatory (Zennerman) & Superior Premium (Superior Star) are represented.
  • PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
  • Out The Ordinary rated 79 at the sales and slightly downgraded to 76 at Leicester because he looked to have hardly grown from the sales.
  • Abbielou (Leicester & Windsor) rated 74.
  • Hogan's Heroes rated 70.
  • Superior Star (Leicester) rated 70? - where he did not look mentally nor physically ready. Has some size to develop but needs to tighten up and be mentally more professional. Looked an average winner at best and ought to be able to rate just over 70 if he develops.
  • Montzando rated 66.
  • Spunger rated 61.
  • Margaret's Choice rated 58.
  • Zennerman rated 52.
