MAY 24th SUMMING UP
|
Godfrey Street made an acceptable debut at Kempton by trainer's
early standards and normal development would see him a strong contender.
He has had a two month break which is a slight worry.
Sands Crooner has not had the pace to compete in three good races
on his latest runs and has been keeping on later in the race. He drops
to easier company but has left the impression he needs 6f rather than this
faster 5f. His trainer has a poor record for getting 2yo wins.
Campbeltown runs for a more reliable trainer and comes from a race
which was a poor level of form but has produced two later winners. The
pace was too quick in that race and led to the leaders fading and outpaced
runners plugging on to win and place. He pressed the pace in second and
faded. His trainer's 2yos have shown good improvement STO and he appeals
as the most likely to challenge Godfrey Street.
Of the newcomers Wilson Star runs for a trainer who usually has
his 2yos very ready on debut and they can place at longer SPs. His pedigree
is also acceptably precocious. Turn Me On runs for a good, reliable
trainer who has not had a 2yo winner yet in 2005. He normally has the odd
early win with a precocious 2yo before settling into his normal pattern
of educational FTO runs. He ought to run the normal, promising, fourthish
here before a STO targeted improved run.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race at the corresponding meeting in the last two years has been a
seller. The race is an ordinary maiden this year but at a low 'Class 6'.
|
SIRES:
|
First season sires Mull Of Kintyre
(Campbeltown) & Quws have runners.
|
TRAINERS: |
R Hannon ran eight 2yos between the start of the season and April
18th. Five of these won STO and the other two have looked moderate (one
has been beaten in sellers). His runner here - Godfrey Street - was the
second earliest debut and has had a two month break to this STO run.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Godfrey Street rated 71 at the sales. At Kempton on debut didn't
seem to have developed from the sales and rating dropped slightly to 69.
Slightly compact and weak in some areas. A minor early season winner rating
around 70 on review.
Sands Crooner (Leicester & Windsor) rated 68 at best. Short,
neat, heavily built sprinter and lacking range. Ready type.
In Hope (Windsor). Rated 62. Smallest in the group (only filly with
6 colts). Medium size but lighter built and narrow. Very fit and ready
but limited to low 60s rating and little scope to develop.
