MAY 31st SUMMING UP
|
The fillies that have already run have shown just moderate promise at best
and not shown good 5f pace. They can improve for better ground and/or more
experience but seem unlikely to set a strong level for a newcomer.
The race often feature a better filly and two of the newcomers have the
profile to fit into that category. Summer Wave's dam made her debut
over 5f in this week of the year for the same trainer and finished second
in a Leicester maiden. She then went to Royal Ascot and won the Windsor
Castle Stakes. The trainer has introduced two fillies so far this season
who have both looked small and run poorly, looking inexperienced. He must
have some better fillies a and they will need to run soon if they are going
to run at Royal 'Ascot'.
Musical Romance has a 'lucky' owner who has had two Group winning
fillies with the same trainer in the last three years. He likes to have
a runner in the best races like the Queen Mary and she will most likely
run there whatever here actual ability level. She was an intended runner
in late April but a non runner and as with Summer Wave needs to run soon
before the better June races.
Her trainer tends to only get FTO wins with his best types so she would
need to be better than useful to win today.

RACE QUALITY:
|
Usually a good race at the sharp end but lacking any depth. The last two
races have produced later winners of a Listed race (Pearl Grey) and a Group
3 (Castelletto won the Cornwallis). However, the fillies behind the first
two in the last years have not managed to win a race at all.

TRAINERS:

R Hannon ran an owner bred filly for The Queen in last seasons race.
She was a moderate type and did not win. He runs Blue Jeans for the same
owner today who made a moderate debut at Warwick.
S Suroor ran the most expensive filly ever bought at a 2yo breeze
up sale, anywhere, in the 2004 race. She cost $2M and is a half sister
to Grade 1 sprinter Madcap Escapade. She finished a moderate 5th and didn't
run again at 2yo.

SIRES:
|
First season sire Mozart
(Musical Romance) has a runner.
Zafonic had a moderate
record over 5f before this season and runners tended to be better for 6f+
and development through the season. 5f specialist trainer M Channon has
run a number of his progeny over 5f this season and has got two wins (one
over 5.3f). Now they are all at it and he has three runners in this race
- Oranges And Lemons, Symphonia & Zafarilla.
