|
General : Note that there are separate sections available via the links on the site homepage which provide detailed stats for individual Sires This section covers general stats about the overall Sire population. |
1. How many different Sires had 2yo runners in each season?
The full list of sires with number of runners is presented as a webpage for each season 2005 to 2014. The Sire Summary Index Page is linked from the main page for each season on the B2yoR site. The 2014 season is linked here when Kodiac topped the list with 69 individual runners followed by Acclamation (67) and First Season Sire Zebedee (66).   In the three seasons 2002 to 2004 no sire had more than 45 individual runners while a total of seven were above that level in 2007. In 2008-11 the figures have been 6-4-5-8. In 2014 the number was 10. 2. How many different Sires had 2yo race wins in each season?
The five with more than 20 wins in 2007 included three First Season Sires in Acclamation (top on 35 wins with 28 second best), Oasis Dream & Choisir along with Royal Applause (Acclamation's Sire) & Bertolini. In 2008 the six sires with 20+ wins included only Oasis Dream from the previous year. The other five were Captain Rio, Exceed And Excel*, Bahamian Bounty, Kyllachy & Kheleyf*. The asterisks indicate which of those were in their first season with runners. In 2009 the seven with more than 20 wins included Oasis Dream, Exceed And Excel & Bahamian Bounty from the 2008 list along with established sire Invincible Spirit. The other three were first season sires Avonbridge+*, Dubawi* & Pastoral Pursuits*. In 2010 the two sires with more than 20 winners were Iffraaj* and Invincible Spirit. In 2011 the four sires were Acclamation (clear top with 27), Dutch Art*, Exceed And Excel & Red Clubs*. The overall Figures in 2013-14 highlight a major decline in the number of Sires represented with 2yo runners in the last 8-10 years. With the number of races increasing over that period this inevitably leads to more sires having 20+ wins in a season. The leader in 2014 was Kodiac on 54 followed by First Season Sires Zebedee (38) and Showcasing (31).
3. Does the age of a runner's Dam make any difference to its chances of winning?    While following racing you will hear various biases expressed relating to the age of dams and their ability to produce competitive racehorses. These usually take the form of doubting the ability of first foals or the products of old dams being less competitive.    The following table shows the results for the 9 seasons from 2005 to 2013 for all foal numbers. The 2014 season Data is then included alongside, mostly to make the point about how small sample sizes can give very lumpy data. Even the 9 seasons worth of data is on the 'small' side as a sample with the good returns for 1st Foals in 2014 lifting their overall Strike Rate to 10.0% from 9.7% in 2005-2013. Suggesting the sample needs to be bigger still to get to a Steady State.
The following table shows the data for the 2005-2013 and 2014 for Class 1 races only. In Britain all Group and Listed races are categorised as being in Class 1. The 13th foals that have been successful at Class 1 level were New Approach (2007), Jukebox Jury (2008), Fulbright & Waiter's Dream (2010) and Coral Mist (2013).
