Pre-race Summary

APRIL 12th SUMMING UP
  • A slightly better race in profile than usual. Lacking the obvious useful+ type among the 'dross' but with a solid 'middle' consisting of Merchant Bankes, Dune Melody, Shaydreambeliever & Mr Rooney.
  • As well as these runners with previous runs it will be interesting to track the debuts from Roman History, Egyptian Lord and King's Revenge who all have profiles to be slightly better than the normal minor winners that this race usually produces.
  • RACE QUALITY:
  • The race is usually of low quality and requires a performance between 54-67 to win, including when it is divided.
  • Occasionally the odd better 2yo gets into the race and they usual 'outclass' the moderate types, e.g. Dance Night won by 9L in 2004 from a runner rating in the 50s in second and Marcus Eile won STO in one division in 2003. The 2002 races were notably poor even by the race standards and devoid of quality.
  • A typical race will only have selling & claming class winners in behind.
  • SIRES:
  • First season sires with runners are Bertolini (Bow Bridge), Distant Music (Dune Melody) & Observatory (Merchant Bankes). None has had a winner yet.
  • SALES REVIEWS:
  • Egyptian Lord was rated 73 at the sales with an above average chance of being a competitive 2yo in early to mid-season. He had good size and build and looked a readier type than many by his sire. He was seen as being capable of rating in the 70s.
  • King's Revenge was rated 69 with a well above average chance of being a competitive 2yo. He was smallish but well built and strong. He lacked quality but had the advantage of being mature enough to compete in early season so a good sign to see him here in mid-April.
  • Shaydreambeliever  was rated 67 with an average chance of being a competitive 2yo.
