APRIL 26th SUMMING UP
|
The change of venue has changed the character of the race. It has turned
into an early season 'decider' between a range of limited types who mostly
have AW experience. None of the runners has the profile to develop to be
competitive in better races (although Danjet will no doubt run in them).
Grimes Faith and Piccostar have both front run here and are likely to be
allowed to do the same here.
The course tends to produce the 'right' result with the best runners having
time to reel in the early speed types in the straight. Although there doesn't
appear to be a useful+ type in the field the pair of Danjet and Azygous
have the best profiles and have shown the best form. Danjet has already
shown good versatility for a runner at this level and may be able to win
despite her penalty.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race is usually of high quality and one of the high points and targets
for the best of the early season turf winners. The change of venue from
Ascot to Lingfield AW has made a difference to the range of entries. The
slow start to the season with less quality performances so far has also
led to a less obviously useful group of entries.
The last two winners have placed in Group races later in the season and
the 2002 winner ran in the Coventry stakes on his next outing.
The entries would suggest a race more in line with the Lily Agnes stakes
with this race being the highest possible target for the majority of the
entries.

PADDOCK & SALES REVIEWS:
|
Azygous was rated 67 at the sales and was small but a neat and ready
type. He was seen as being able to rate just over 70 in early season.
Danjet (Warwick) was rated 65 and has already shown form slightly
above her physical looks helped by her maturity and her trainers method.
She should be able to rate into the 70s in early season but with limited
scope to develop.
Dusty City was rated 64 at the sales with a below average chance
of being a competitive 2yo.
Piccostar was rated 58 and has muscled up well but has already run
above expectations.
