RACE QUALITY:
|
A race that usually attracts a wide variety of abilities and normally at
least 2-3 useful to superior 2yos. The best quality runners tend to come
to the fore and often include winners of important race. Usually takes
a performance over 80 to win.
The exception was in 2003 when the later winners were spread through the
field and a number of disappointing types finished in the first 6. [This
was the day that Hawk Wing ran away from the Lockinge field in a rainstorm
and it produced more than one result that was difficult to explain].

TRAINERS:
|
R Hannon has had five runners in the race in 2002-4 producing a
winner and two seconds. The market has not been a good indicator of the
likely abilities of his runners. In 2004 his runner at 66/1 was a strong
second and won a Listed race next time. In 2003 the 8/1 preferred was the
disappointing Farewell Gift who finished second in a muddling race. He
was still trying to break his maiden as a 3yo while the 20/1 second string
won two races at 2yo.
J Gosden has run three in the race 2003-4 including the superior
Iceman on his STO run before winning the Coventry. In 2003 the superior
Privy Seal finished midfield in a muddling race and finished 3rd in the
Coventry after a maiden win.
