MAY 31st SUMMING UP

RACE QUALITY:
|
The quality of the race in the last three years has been entirely dependent
upon the quality of early sprint 2yos that three main trainers can supply
with occasional support from B Meehan.
A rating in the range 85-92 has been needed to win in the last three years
with the 2002 race being notably weaker.
The majority of runners will be precocious early season 2yos who will already
have completed their winning for the year. Most of those that have tried
better class races later have been unable to beat the best of the later
season 2yos. Only Kings Point who had the physical scope to develop over
7f won at Group 3 level and the other main wins have been in sales races.

TRAINERS:
|
A glance at the results from the last three seasons below shows that this
has been almost a private race between M Johnston, R Hannon
& M Channon.
M Johnston last three runners have been two winners and a neck second.
He entered two for the race with Royal Engineer running instead of the
maiden Desert Realm. Of his other three winners in 2005 Mr Rooney ran unplaced
in the Listed National Stakes earlier this week & In Full Cry is presumably
being saved for the Coventry Stakes.
In general the free running style that the stable allows with the majority
of 2yos seems well suited to the track where pacemakers can be difficult
to run down.
R Hannon has had five runners in the race in 2002-4. These have
been of varying ability from 70s rated maiden winners like One Last Time
through to later Group 3 7f winner Kings Point (who did not really handle
the track and finished well but never really got into the race).
He entered two for the race and Green Pride runs instead on the once raced
maiden Storm On The Run. Green Pride vies with the filly Gamble In Gold
for the best early season sprint 2yo he has.
M Channon has also run five in the race in the last
three years with a second place by the useful Cedarberg the best finish.
The representatives have again been a variety of abilities.
He entered Salute Him as well as his sole runner - BA Foxtrot.
