MAY 3rd SUMMING UP
|
The Class 3 grading of the race might lead you to believe this will be
an important maiden and stuffed with 2yos of some potential. As usual it
is actually full of moderate types with a small sprinkling of average types.
The fact that the race has not been divided means that the race is even
more cluttered up with deadwood than usual.
River Kintyre stands out on profile and although he comes from a
moderate renewal of the Brocklesby he would only need to show average improvement
to be a very strong contender here. He's also well drawn and with newcomers
inside of him.
Silver Crest looked limited at the sales and this jars with the
promise of his debut run. He's clearly improved physically from the sales
and has some natural pace but is poorly drawn here. The 2003 race proved
that a wide draw can be overcome in a field with such a spread of abilities.
However, has he really improved that much?
Of the others only Titus Maximus, Myttons's Pride and possibly Becktara
appeal as being capable of being at least average sprint winners in the
season.

RACE QUALITY:
|
The race is often divided (in both 2002 & 2004). The 16 runner this
year make an unusual race with those drawn higher at a disadvantage. However,
the 2003 race with 13 runners saw the placed horses come from stalls 13
& 14 (one non runner). Those two had previous experience and made good
starts to cross to the rail before the end of the first furlong.
Despite the race Class it is has been a moderate to average race in recent
years. The field has included a wide range of abilities and the top end
usually feature a couple of sprint 2yos capable of rating around 75-80
without being useful.

SALES REVIEWS:
|
Mytton's Pride rated 73 at the sales with an above average chance
of being competitive as a 2yo. He was medium sized with a heavyish build
while being deeper and less lengthy than typical for the sire. He seemed
well bought at 12k gns.
Figjam rated 61 with an average chance of being a competitive at
a low level. He was slightly small and very heavily built. His muscularity
promised he could be a strong 2yo and develop well but he looked to lack
the athleticism to use this strength.
Silver Crest rated 57 at the sales with a below average chance of
being a competitive 2yo at a reasonable level. He was small with medium
build and was still physically immature. Not particularly athletic. He
seems to have developed well from the sales on the evidence of his debut.
Scooby Dude rated 54 and a low chance of being a competitive 2yo
at a low level. He was notably small and lightly built.
Zennerman rated 52 and a low chance of being a competitive 2yo at
a low level. He was very small and lightly built, especially behind.
